Occupied with
Economic Justice?
We’d like as many people as possible to Occupy the Library
for the next Peace Fellowship Adult Ed series January 8th – Feb 12th. We’ll be exploring topics of economic
justice, the Occupy movement, and what these topics mean to Christians, and what
we as Christians can do. Below is a
brief outline of anticipated topics. Dates may change as speaker availability
is confirmed.
January 8th
– Inside Job – Excerpts from this documentary on what went wrong that
caused the economic meltdown, and what it means to us as Christians will be
shown and discussed. How this has led to economic justice issues and the Occupy
movement.
January 15th
– An Economist from the UW may be available to give some perspective on the
current economic situation, imbalances, and impacts to the poorest. What we can expect in the near future, and
what it could take to move to positive territory.
January 22nd
– The Occupy Movement – what’s it about and do we as Christians have
responsibilities? We’ll have a speaker
from the Occupy movement talk about the movement and answer questions. It will be a lively discussion!
Feb 5th –
Money and Politics/ Citizens and Politics – Corporate buy-out of
government, greed as a motivator, are we seeing the worse side of
capitalism. What’s our role and
responsibility? An outside speaker may
join us, or materials and discussion will be led by Peace Fellowship.
Feb 12th –
What We Can Do…Mortgage Foreclosures, credit card debt, debt policies.
We’ll be discussing these topics and others.
Please join us for lively conversation!
