What does a hockey stick and a jar of peanut butter have in common? Nothing – unless you think playing street hockey might be fun and make you feel good and donating food might be fun and make you feel good. Wedgwood Presbyterian is holding a continuous two-hour street hockey game in our east parking lot on Saturday, October 15 as a benefit for our North Helpline neighbors. You come and play street hockey (no experience needed – invite your friends) and donate food for the privilege of doing so. We’ll be here from 10:00am to 12:00 and run continuous sub-in games. We have sticks available, but if you have your own, bring it along. From 10:00am to 10:15 and 11:00am to 11:15, we’ll set aside time for our youngest set (elementary age and under) to play with each other and/or their parents. We have ten of the shorter plastic sticks. Also, I challenge the parents of the Middle and High School Youth Group to come and team up to see if you can hold your own against them. This is a fun game to watch too, so I encourage you to come and cheer on the players. -Jennifer H.

About North Helpline (from their website)
North Helpline was started in 1989 by a small group of volunteers who noticed that many of their neighbors were not able to pay their rent, cover their utility bills and put food on the table because their paychecks didn’t stretch that far. These friends began collecting food and financial support to distribute to those most in need in their community. The initial group grew to 600+ who contribute over 2000 hours of work monthly. They provide critical human services to over 1000 clients each week to reduce the impact of hunger and poverty in Greater North Seattle. Their three main programs are the Food Bank, Emergency Services, and Health Care Clinic.
