Civil-rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. compared hate to “an unchecked cancer,” saying it “corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity.” Unfortunately, the destructive force of hatred is often evident in nations, communities, families and even churches. The obvious — though not always easy — antidote to hatred is love. As The Message translation of Proverbs 10:12 states, “Hatred starts fights, but love pulls a quilt over the bickering.” The image of a comfy quilt symbolizes the soothing impact that loving words and actions can have on enemies as well as friends. Plus, it’s tough to share the gospel without showing love, which social reformer Elizabeth Cady Stanton called “the ‘open sesame’ to every soul.”  From NewsletterNewsletter January 2016

“The Magi teach us true faith,” said Martin Luther. Given the obstacles they encountered, we would understand if they had given up altogether! Join us for Holy Week services: Palm Sunday Service in which we celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. All children are   invited to meet in the Fireside Room before the service to help with the palm procession.   Sunday, April 9 - Service at 10 : 0 0 AM. Maundy Thursday Service in which we commemorate Jesus’ last Passover meal with his disciples and remember his journey to the cross, crucifixion, and burial.  Thursday, April 13 - Supper at 6:00 PM, Service at 7:00 PM.  Easter Sunday Service in which we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and God’s victory over suffering, sin, and death.  At CokesburyVBS Hero Central, your children will enjoy an interactive, energizing, Bible-based good time as they discover their strength in God. They will become Heroes and explore how to serve God and God’s mission for their lives. After a high-energy opening assembly at Hero Central, the Heroes make their way to the Bible Story Headquarters. Interactive Bible lessons reveal Hero Codes to equip your Heroes for an active life with God. Your Heroes will discover a Hero Verse (Bible memory verse) that will remain with them in their faith long after VBS. Spring Social: Join us on April 30th at 5:30 p.m. for a fun all-ages Spring event. We will be having a Build-Your-Own-Taco Dinner followed by flower potting and Blessing Bag creation. Flower Potting : With Spring in full season and Mother’s Day coming up join us in creating festive flower pots. The pots, flowers, and soil will be provided, just show up ready to get your hands a little dirty. Feel free to give these as gifts to your mothers or just keep as a cute house decorat ion.  Blessing Bags : Blessing Bags are a great way to give back to our community. They are large gallon sized Ziploc bags filled with items such as: travel sized soap and shampoo, a toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, socks, deodorant, chapstick, and granola bars, that you can carry around and give to those in need. When their minivan was hit by a drunk driver, Gerald Sittser lost his mother, wife and daughter all at one time. Sittser, a religion professor, escaped without physical injury but was then forced to navigate his extreme loss. Eventually he concluded that “the experience of loss does not need to be the defining moment of our story” (quoted in AHA, by Kyle Idleman). Instead, “the defining moment can be our response to the loss,” Sittser says. “In this world you will have trouble,” Jesus warns in John 16:33 (NIV) — no sugar-coating or pretending there. But then he says, “Take heart!” Jesus doesn’t want our troubles to define us; he wants to define us! The defining truth of our story is that Jesus has “overcome the world” — even at its worst. He’s stronger than our struggles and sorrows. And in him, so are we. —Heidi Mann

Be part of this movement that is sharing God’s love with those in in need.   Please drop a dollar or two on Super Bowl Sunday into the soup pots held by our youngest on your way out of worship.   This year, the Youth Group has decided to give the funds collected to Packs for Kids at Eckstein Middle School, a weekend backpack food distribution program serving 80 plus children at Eckstein.

From the North Helpline:   Thanks to volunteers from Maple Leaf Lutheran Church, Wedgwood Community Church, Wedgwood Presbyterian Church (THESE BENCHES ARE GREAT), and Sand Point Community United Methodist for coming to volunteer with us. We had 50 volunteers helping us do everything from sort food to build benches for our clients waiting in line. We feel so grateful to be a part of their service to our community. Soup Supper and Caroling in the Neighborhood Tuesday, December 22, 2015 Soup and Bread at 6:00, Depart to Sing at 6:30pm ... We hope you can join us for soup and bread at 6:00pm before we commence with song, first at Hunter’s Tree Farm and then around the neighborhood. We sing about the birth of Christ, no matter the weather, so remember your hat and mittens. Come sing with us.

Faith isn’t about knowing all of the right stuff or obeying a list of rules. It’s something more, something more costly because it involves being present and making a sacrifice. Perhaps that’s why Jesus is sometimes called Immanuel — “God with us.” I think that’s what God had in mind, for Jesus to be present, to just be with us. Getting ready for the... The Very Important Christmas Pageant Sunday, December 13, 6:30pm Come and enjoy the retelling of the birth of Jesus as presented by the children and teens of this church. This much anticipated event is a special time in the life of Wedgwood Presbyterian Church and our community. Invite your family and friends to witness this drama and to stay for the singing of Christmas Carols and Songs. Thank you for supporting the youngest in our midst.

Deck the Halls, December 5th at 10:00am. Come decorate the church for the Christmas season. Many hands make the work go quickly and there are jobs both large and small for all ages. We will have donuts, coffee and cider for snacks.
